Foot Patrols were designed by police departments for the purpose of having a police presence in a designed area. This was employed to have the officer engage the public. SPS uses that same philosophy for our foot patrols. It gives the S.O. the chance to be seen and answer or direct questions to their proper source. The S.O. can direct traffic when needed along with observe and make checks to designated areas. The officer can also respond to calls for help or call the appropriate authorities if necessary. The client is then informed through and incident report that explains what had happened. This type of patrol is good for small areas or office buildings.
Patrol Cars also serve an important role. They allow high visibility along with covering more area in less time. The vehicle may have its in service lights on to alert the public of their presence or to direct traffic or dangerous condition. This can also be used in conjunction with foot patrols.
